Hey folks,
Just got back from a 4 day hunt in West Texas. It was 16 the first morning and water was pretty hard. We busted open a hole and I squeezed a dozen decoys in it. My first kill with TSS was a Ringneck at around 50yrds passing, he folded up and slid no less than 60 yrds and slammed into the bank. It was nuts. The second bird was also a Ringneck and again a passing shot at arround 50 yrds. this one took the shot and flew for about 30 yards then slowly went down. It landed just above the spot where the first one crashed on the bank. 3rd bird that day was a Pintail just over the decoys and he folded like a rag.
Second and 3rd hunts we had the hole opened up a bit more and had a blind fashioned. Fun times to come. Limited the next two days between my partner and I. The fourth day we hit a different area with smaller tanks that had just thawed out. I only scratched out 5 that last morning. Birds just weren't back in the area after the freeze.
One thing that did happen on 3 occasions is birds that where hit in the body only would fly anywhere from 30-70yrds and then slowly fall....I'd find them stone dead. A Ringneck flying maybe 30yrds past the point of impact and a Canvas Back about 50 and a Pintail Sprig went about 70yrds and dropped.
All other birds shot with TSS/Steel duplex folded like dirty dish rags and where DEAD. Shot's ranged from 15 to 60+yrds
Load was 202gr of #4 steel and 219gr of 8.5 TSS in Cheddite hull with TPS wad. I killed most birds with a LSI Pointer 28 Auto with 28" barrel. I did hunt on second afternoon with Yildiz 28 and shot HW-13 on that hunt (4 birds). 2nd day hunt I shot HW-13 #6. After shooting the two......(editing the post) HW-13 will be second on the list. I did kill a limit with the HW-13, but I hit more birds with less shots with TSS/Steel loads.

I was just south of Abilene. Had access to a couple of ranches. We were on probably the biggest water between Lake Coleman and the Lake in Abilene. Also hunted some tanks just south of Lake Coleman.
I can get you guide info if you'd like. My buddy does one day hunts in that area and if you book in Jan I might just be your guide.

Nice, I grew up in Katy Texas and now live in FL. However, we are building a house out in New Mexico .
